In early December in Thirsk marketplace, the town transforms to a traditional Yorkshire Christmas fayre offering arts, crafts and local food and drink. A visit to see Santa is a must. Thirsk centre offers a great day out for all the family with free parking facilities and picnic areas.
If you want a cream tea and sandwiches or experience a true Yorkshire feel, visit the local public houses or tea shops. Try the local beer (Black Sheep) from Masham or the world renowned Masham sausages (on the menu at Betty’s tea rooms in York). Other places to visit Monk Park Farm – A local visitor centre with animals galore. Stroke guinea pigs, rabbits, donkeys , goats and lambs to name but a few. The James Herriot Centre Explore the visitor centre in Thirsk dedicated to Alf Wright, author of the infamous James Herriot novels. The Centre recreates the sets of the TV series ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ – reliving the 1940’s and 1950’s era. Visit James Herriot’s surgeries and dispensary. View the consulting rooms with medicine bottles and potions. See the TV studio sets and try your hand at camerawork.
